The Costa Ricans love children and will go to great length to accommodate travel with children. They will be patient about children crying or misbehaving in a public place. Anyone will assist you if you need to heat up a bottle or need a place to change diapers. On the other hand they have a cavalier attitude towards safety and that includes children. A good example is that many of the bikes that you see kids riding around on have missing brakes or no brakes at all. Nobody has children's seats in the car and you will have to ask ahead when you rent a car. In the hotel there may be no small beds. Kids in Costa Rica generally sleep in an adult size bed. Costa Ricans also have a different attitude towards hardship. They will think nothing of taking kids along on daytrips that you would consider too hard for the kids (or for you). So you will not get good information on whether a trip is appropriate for kids.
